Pediatric Care

What is pediatric care?

Pediatric care focuses on the health needs of infants, children, and adolescents. It encompasses preventive care, developmental screenings, sick visits, and chronic care.

Preventive care

The team at Gruene Lake Medical provides wellness visits and physicals for young patients. These appointments are critical for monitoring your child’s health and development so that any signs of a health problem can be diagnosed and treated quickly.

The team also provides the immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect your child from dangerous diseases.

Developmental screenings

During your child’s wellness visits, your provider performs developmental screenings ranging from their height and weight to their language skills and behavior. While all children develop at their own pace, they’re expected to reach developmental milestones by certain age ranges.

Developmental screenings help the team identify potential issues, ranging from autism to learning disabilities, so your child can get the treatment and support they need to thrive.

Sick visits

The team at Gruene Lake Medical also provides scheduled and walk-in sick visits. If your child has a fever or other signs of illness that need medical attention, bring them into the office for personalized care.

Chronic care

If your child has a chronic health condition such as allergies, asthma, or diabetes, the team at Gruene Lake Medical offers customized chronic care to manage your child’s condition and protect their health.

Depending on your child’s needs, your provider might recommend medication, dietary adjustments, or other lifestyle modifications.

How often does my child need to see a doctor?

Children have frequent checkups during the first few years of their lives. The recommended schedule includes:

  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
  • 30 months

Your child should have annual wellness visits from 3 years old. You should also bring them in if they’re ever ill, injured, or if you have other concerns about your child’s health or development.

The team at Gruene Lake Medical also provides new baby/mom consultations for expecting mothers. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about what to expect during the early days of motherhood and get advice on newborn care.

What immunizations does my child need?

The team at Gruene Lake Medical follows the CDC recommendations for pediatric immunizations. According to these guidelines, children should receive vaccines for:

  • Hepatitis B
  • Rotavirus
  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
  • Pneumococcal conjugate
  • Polio
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis A
  • Human papillomavirus
  • Meningococcal

Your child should also have an annual flu shot. The influenza virus mutates rapidly, changing from year to year. Flu season typically lasts from October until April, and it’s best to have flu shots as early in the season as possible.
