Sick Visits
What is a sick visit?
When you or a family member isn’t feeling well and needs medical attention, you can schedule a sick visit with the team at Gruene Lake Medical. They diagnose and treat illnesses to help you recover and get back to your regular activities as quickly and safely as possible.
The team offers comprehensive diagnostic testing for illnesses, including:
- COVID-19
- Strep throat
- Influenza
- Mononucleosis
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
They also offer treatments for sinusitis and other persistent upper respiratory infections, tonsillitis, and bronchitis.
What are the signs I should see a doctor for an illness?
Everyone gets a cold or mild stomach bug occasionally, and these illnesses usually subside within a week or so. However, if you have persistent or severe symptoms, you should schedule a same-day sick visit at Gruene Lake Medical.
Some of the signs that indicate you need a doctor include:
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea (more than two days)
- Black or tarry stool
- Cold symptoms that last for more than a week
- Red, swollen tonsils with white or yellow patches
You get a fever when your immune system fights off illness. If you or your child has a fever that persists for more than a few days, doesn’t respond to over-the-counter medication, or is accompanied by other symptoms, make an appointment.
What happens during a sick visit?
When you come into the office, you check in with the front desk team, providing your ID and insurance information. A member of the clinical team escorts you to a treatment room where you meet with your provider.
Your provider asks about your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. They take your temperature and perform a physical exam to collect more information about your condition.
Depending on your symptoms, your provider might order bloodwork, urinalysis, or other lab tests to help diagnose your illness. They also use nasal and throat swabs to test for diseases, including COVID-19, strep throat, mononucleosis, and the flu.
When your provider completes your diagnosis, they prescribe medication and other treatments to alleviate your symptoms and help your body fight off the illness.
If you or a family member needs a sick visit, call Gruene Lake Medical or use the online booking tool to schedule a same-day appointment.
